  • When creating this brand, I wanted to find a username that would fit our niche, yet still made sense. Essentially, exploring and eating is what we do here, hence the name "exploretomakan" :)

    "Makan" means "Eat" in Malay / Bahasa Melayu, which is my mother tongue language.

  • It's all done in-house! As a digital marketer, I have dabbled in website design and content management during my day job, so it made perfect sense for me to handle the design in-house.

  • The journey with EXPLORETOMAKAN officially began in 2022, but the seeds were planted long before that. I started blogging back in 2008, when platforms like Blogspot and LiveJournal were all the rage. My personal domain, nurulmimsy.com, served as a digital canvas for my thoughts and memories until 2020.

    In 2020, I decided to focus on travel as my niche. I then privatised my personal account and created a separate food and travel account on Instagram while bidding farewell to the old blog. You may notice some articles from my previous blog posts making their way into EXPLORETOMAKAN's archives.

    Finally, in 2022, I officially rebranded their platform to EXPLORETOMAKAN, consolidating my passion for exploration, food, and sharing my adventures with other Muslims around the world.

  • There are so many reasons why I started and still choose to continue blogging after so many years.

    1. Personal Passion: Writing is not just a hobby for me — it's her full-time gig. The blog serves as a virtual scrapbook, allowing me to relive moments and reminisce about past journeys. It's a stroll down memory lane at the click of a button.

    2. Breaking Stereotypes: I'm here to break the mould and prove that Muslim women can be avid explorers too. I also want to encourage Muslims to explore Allah’s beautiful world. You shouldn’t avoid a country solely due to the perception that there is a lack of halal food. There is always a grocery store somewhere for you to cook your own meals. Be vegetarian for a few days if you have to.

    3. Inspiring Others: I am living prove that you don’t have to quit your job to enjoy the travel lifestyle. Adulting can be a rollercoaster, and burnout can get to you. So respect yourself enough to set boundaries and make full use of your well-deserved vacation days!

    4. Sharing & Learning: I'm all about spreading the travel tips and experiences — both the good and bad! My advice isn't just for friends; it's for everyone who can relate. Whether it's learning from my missteps or making use of my discount codes and recommendations, I hope they help you in your trip planning.
